Adjudication panel decisions and your actions

Decisions you may receive after submitting your Fellowship claim, and the actions you would then need to take.

Once you have submitted your claim, your work will be assessed at an EdTA Adjudication panel by a minimum of two assessors. Assessors are experienced educational leaders from different subject matter areas and expertise from across the university.

EdTA panels occur four times per year.

Detailed information on how we assess EdTA claims can be found on the EdTA Assessor webpages including all of the EdTA panel dates.

Award

After a panel has convened, the EdTA team will collate all of the feedback from the panel. If your submission is successful, you can expect an award notification typically within 2-3 weeks. We will email you to congratulate you and provide you with feedback from your assessors. You will be asked to register with Advance HE (instructions below).

We recommend that you share your accomplishment with your local leadership and by adding a fellowship badge or acronym (e.g., SFHEA) to your email signature.

Register award with Advance HE

Once you have been given the award notification, we ask that you register with Advance HE. If you already have an Advance HE account, you can skip this step. Please register immediately after receiving your award letter.

To register:

  • Go to the AdvanceHE website
  • At the very top right of the page, click on ‘Log in’
  • Then, click on ‘Log into My Advance HE’
  • At the very top right, click on ‘Log in’ (Yes, again)
  • Click on ‘Sign up now’ and then follow the guidance.
  • Note that UoE is under the letter T for ‘The University of Edinburgh’
  • Double check your full name and email address that you provide to us and to them. If your name has changed, or your contact information has changed please let us know. If you have two email addresses, please make sure we have the right one.

Once registered, we will document your successful completion of this award. Advance HE will then provide you with your HEA certificate which you can download from their webpages. It may take a couple of weeks for Advance HE to process our awards, but sometimes it is available much more quickly. To download the certificate, log in to My Advance HE (as above). Click on ‘Fellowship’ and ‘View your certificate’.

Award with Minor Amendments

After a panel has convened, the EdTA team will collate all of the feedback from the panel. If your submission is missing some minor information, you will be given an ‘Award with Minor Amendments’. Typically, we will notify you within 2-3 weeks following the panel, and provide you with specific feedback that you are required to address before your award can be released to you.

To release your award, you will need to make a Resubmission. See the instructions on our EdTA resubmissions webpage

Refer

After a panel has convened, the EdTA team will collate all of the feedback from the panel. If your submission is not yet meeting your category descriptor or missing some substantial information, you will be given an ‘Refer’. Typically, we will notify you within 2-3 weeks following the panel, and provide you with specific feedback that you are required to address in a resubmission. Once given a Refer, you will have one opportunity to resubmit your work and gain fellowship.

To make a Resubmission, see the EdTA resubmissions webpage for more details.

Unsuccessful

If after two submissions (one original and one Refer resubmission), you are still not meeting the Descriptor, your claim will be judged as unsuccessful.

We will recommend that you gain more experience and reapply to join the EdTA in the future or use our feedback and your claim information to apply directly to Advance HE.
