Attending an IAD Workshop

IAD are currently operating a hybrid delivery of workshops, with a portion of workshops taking place online, and the remaining taking place on campus. If you are attending an IAD workshop please note the following: 

Attending an Online Workshop 

How do I attend a digital workshop? 

You can book a place on all IAD workshops via IAD webpages. In the week prior to the workshop you will receive an email with a link and details on how to access the session digitally, either through Collaborate, Microsoft Teams or through Zoom. 

Workshop Etiquette  

Most IAD workshops require active participation, such as group work and discussion. You may be asked to contribute using your microphone or on the chat function. Please join from a private space where you will not be disturbed and feel you can speak freely without disturbing others. You will get most from the session if you join and participate with both audio and video.  

Please make sure you arrive on time, joining a workshop late can be disruptive to the rest of the group. 

Please do not sign up for a workshop unless you are able to attend the full duration of the workshop. Leaving early is disruptive to the rest of the group 

Do you record sessions? 

Generally speaking IAD workshops are not recorded, this is due to the interactive and participatory nature of the workshops, and also to ensure data protection and confidentiality of participants during discussions and on the chat boards. 

Occasionally an information session or workshop may be recorded and you will be informed if this is the case.

Why are maximum numbers set on digital workshops? 

Maximum numbers are set for digital workshops as they are delivered as interactive sessions and not lectures and so we need to limit the number of participants to allow for effective group work, discussion, feedback and questions and to ensure participants get the most from the session.  

If a workshop is fully booked please add your name to the waiting list, we often get cancellations in advance of a workshop, and we will try to arrange additional dates for workshops with large waiting lists. 

Should I cancel my place if I’m not able to attend? 

As maximum numbers are set for digital workshops it is important you still cancel your place if you find you are no longer able to attend, this allows others the opportunity to attend 

How do I record my attendance on an IAD workshop?

Attendance on IAD workshops is recorded using QR codes. At the start of a workshop a QR code and weblink will be displayed, please use this code/link to confirm your attendance. You will be asked to log in to your Office 365 student or staff account in order to record your attendance. If you are unable to access the link, an email address will be provided so you can confirm your attendance. If you fail to register your attendance, you will not receive any post workshop materials if there are any.

Attending an In Person Workshop 

What can I expect when attending an in person Workshop?

An IAD in person workshop will typically have a maximum of 30 participants.

Catering is not provided during in person workshops (unless specified upon booking) Please bring your own refreshments. Free water points are available in most University buildings

If possible please bring a laptop or digital device, paper and pens will not be provided. 

You will be asked to register your attendance on a workshop using a QR code which will be displayed at the start of the session.  You will be asked to log in to your Office 365 student or staff account. If you are unable to access the link, an email address will be provided so you can confirm your attendance. If you fail to register your attendance, you will not receive any post workshop materials if there are any.
