Developing doctoral students as (collaborative) writers Team members: Jonathan Wyatt, Dagmar Alexander Abstract How do social science doctoral students develop as writers, in particular as collaborative writers? How might participation in structured collaborative writing activities affect their developing skills and identities as writers and researchers? This research project will investigate how participation in collaborative writing activities enhances the professional development of doctoral students. The qualitative study will involve up to sixteen doctoral students from the School of Health In Social Science participating In a one-year collaborative writing programme. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups will be conducted prior to, during and following the programme in order to inquire into the impact that the experience of the project has upon a) participants' individual and collaborative writing practices, b) their perceptions of themselves as writers and c) their perceptions of themselves, more broadly, as researchers.
