Tutoring and Demonstrating: a Handbook

This handbook is designed for new and more experienced tutors and demonstrators.

About the book

The handbook was developed in 1995. It therefore does not include reference to online tutoring or recent research on student learning. However, it is still recommended as a useful general reference guide to practice and is widely used in Edinburgh and beyond.

The editors are Fred Forster, Dai Hounsell and Sheila Thompson. It was published by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Assessment, The University of Edinburgh in association with the (former) Universities' and Colleges' Staff Development Agency. 1995. ISBN: 0 9523956 1 4

The handbook covers the essentials of tutoring and demonstrating, including tutorials and problem-solving classes, laboratory and fieldwork, assessment and feedback. It will also be of value to lecturers, administrators and managers who guide and support tutors and demonstrators.
