Team Members: Rona Doig, Mary Brennan, Sophie Mitchinson, Kirsty Stewart, Lucie Stokes

Abstract

Since 2014, the Business School (UEBS) has used the Edinburgh Award framework to support our PGT students in focussing on their professional development. In AY 2018-19, UEBS piloted an Edinburgh Award in Professional Development for our non-honours undergraduate students, in partnership with our Peer Assisted Learning Support (BizPALS) network and the Central Careers service to design, develop and implement this.

We plan on evaluating and reviewing this model of the Edinburgh Award, making recommendations for improvement, and introducing a model of Edinburgh Award to support Honours students in their Leadership Development.

This project will be a partnership between the UEBS Student Development team, SSPS, BizPALS network and the Employability Consultancy, and will provide student part-time employment to carry out the review and recommendations phase of the project. Our objective is to ensure we create a scalable, sustainable model of professional development support across our undergraduate programmes portfolio, enhancing our students’ self-awareness and confidence in their skills and abilities, and, by extension, their confidence in approaching the graduate labour market. The Business School’s approach to mapping skills development across and beyond our taught curricula has been applauded by one of our accrediting bodies, the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) as evidence of implementing our Assurances of Learning. Furtherance of professional skills development will continue to embed this approach in our business education delivery. Working in partnership with students and university colleagues, we will share recommendations from this project across the university and at appropriate Learning and Teaching conferences.
