What you can expect when you join, and how you will be matched to a mentor. Before being welcomed to the EdTA please ensure that you have considered all of your CPD options and ensured the EdTA the right opportunity for you and have joined the waiting list:Is the EdTA the right opportunity for me? EdTA - apply by joining the waiting listWelcome sessionThe EdTA starts with new groups of participants twice per academic year, usually in November and March. If you have made it up to the top of the EdTA waiting list, we will email you to ask if you would like to start the scheme. When we email you, it may be that you are unable to start the EdTA due to your workload or other duties, so please email us back and ask to defer your start to the next start-date or be removed from the waiting list. Once you have confirmed that you can start, we will welcome you the EdTA and invite you to attend our ‘Introduction to the EdTA’ live session. It is mandatory that all new starting participants attend our Introduction session, or watch the recording of the session afterwards. EnrolmentAfter the Introduction session, we will email you again to confirm that you would like to start by requesting that you complete our enrolment form, indicate your chosen fellowship category, and provide other key information. This process allows us to match you with the right mentor. Once you have returned the enrolment form, you will be considered enrolled and given an end-date to work towards (i.e., just under 2 years from your start date). You will be added to our EdTA Teams channel where you can ask questions and interact with other EdTA participants, mentors, and assessors. Please note that all up-to-date files, recordings, and information about the EdTA scheme is provided here on the website. From this point onwards, you can start independently working on your fellowship portfolio. To support you, we provide all new starts with an additional non-mandatory live session, called ‘Finding yourself in the PSF’, which will walk you through the first steps towards starting and writing your claim including describing all of the Dimensions of the professional standards framework (PSF).Mentor matchingOnce you are enrolled into the scheme, our EdTA team will match you with a mentor. We have more than 200+ potential mentors with differing availabilities and preferences within the scheme, and sometimes this process will take a week or two to get right. Once paired, our EdTA team will send an introduction email to connect both mentor and mentees. EdTA participants are asked to lead the initial introduction actions, like saying hello and arranging a meet-up with their mentors. In rare cases, participants and mentors might be mismatched for a variety of reasons. We recommend that you meet with your mentor first, but, if you feel that you can’t work with them, please do reach out to the EdTA team (confidentially) to explain why it’s not a good pairing. We will do our best to try to find a new mentor for you. However, the scheme is under high demand, and we can’t promise that all mentor-mentee matches will be with your ideal working partner. For further information about mentoring expectations and guidance, please see our EdTA mentoring pages and several FAQs later in this sub-section. This article was published on 2025-03-18
