What is an EdTA Local Mentoring Scheme?

How local EdTA mentoring schemes operate in the University of Edinburgh.

The local mentoring schemes are locally-led mentoring schemes in which staff within your local context manage the mentoring and support towards AdvanceHE fellowship. The main benefit to running your own scheme is to tailor your advice towards your subject or discipline needs and workplace culture, including using different support models, group mentoring, and providing custom-made resources and activities.

Each local mentoring scheme is managed by a designated lead.

The local mentoring scheme Leader will...

  • Manage the recruitment and administration of mentoring within their local area.
  • Do the mentor-matching process ‘in-house’
  • Share all of the needed EdTA documents and guidance with local mentors and participants on how to write and submit a fellowship claim
  • Provide local participants with ‘in-house’ support, workshops, and writing retreats. Encourage local participants to attend our central EdTA events (as appropriate)
  • Annually reports back to the central EdTA team on mentor matches, participant progress, and other relevant information.

Our central EdTA team will...

  • Maintains records of all EdTA participants (central and local)
  • Manage and lead assessment of all EdTA submissions, including locally-mentored submissions
  • Provide training to all central and local EdTA mentors.

For more detailed information on the roles and responsibilities of the Local mentoring scheme lead, please see our Local Mentoring Scheme Handbook on the local scheme information webpage.

Mentors on the local mentoring schemes should follow all of the existing guidelines and resources provided on our EdTA Mentors page.
