Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions from prospective EdTA participants

The length of time and pace of working on an EdTA submission is self-defined. Some folks will be able to complete a draft submission in 20 hours or less, whereas other colleagues may need much more time (e.g., 80 hours or more). This is usually guided by your familiarity with the professional standards framework (PSF), how much evidence you have (or don’t currently have) for ‘good practice’, your current workload, and your working style amongst other things.

At most, all staff are given just under 2 years from start-to-finish to submit their portfolio, but, you can submit at any time in those 2 years.

EdTA mentors and mentee relationships are unique to the individuals. Some colleagues like to meet in person, several times per year and others prefer to work virtually or not make much contact time together.

We ask all mentors and mentees to discuss a good way of working together when they are first introduced, including when to meet, how to give feedback, and specific timeframes that you’d like to work to. Most mentors can give approximately 15 hours of workload to mentor another staff member, and at a minimum, we recommend that all mentors read the written draft of your work prior to submission.
