Role in IAD

I am a member (0.4 FTE) of IAD’s Careers Support Team providing confidential, impartial, expert careers guidance to research staff. As well as 1:1 guidance, I design and facilitate careers education and information workshops to support research staff in planning and managing their careers. My role includes employer engagement, working with colleagues across the institution to raise awareness of the diversity of careers options for research staff, and connecting employers with our talented researcher staff.

Professional Interests

Political skills at work, emotions in the workplace, EDI, occupational identities, dual-career families, mid-life career reinvention, how organisations help employees manage their careers, careers theory, and guidance practice.

Professional Activities

I am a member of the Personnel Committee of the British Ecological Society, providing HR oversight and supporting the senior leadership team.  As a Board Member for Youth Highland, I provide expertise on youth employability. 

A freelance trainer for AGCAS, I design and deliver training internationally on Introduction to Guidance Interviewing and Writing for Impact. Previously, I was a member of the Professionalism Working Party, creating the Professionals Standards for UK HE careers professionals, and a Peer Reviewer of HE careers services for the AGCAS Quality Standard.

I am also a self-employed careers, leadership, and pedagogical consultant supporting various services in UK HE, including an AHRC-funded DTP, and providing career coaching and guidance to private clients.
