Social Theory Walks: The City of Edinburgh as a teaching space for social theory applied to Education School: Moray House School of Education and SportTeam: Dr Aliandra Barlete, Moray House School of Education and SportAbstractWhat can the city of Edinburgh teach us about social theory? This project makes use of the unique historical development of Edinburgh to teach social theory applied to Education for postgraduate students at Moray House School of Education and Sport. To do so, this proposal aims to pilot three different ‘Social Theory Walks’ across the city guided by key social theory concepts, such as post/modernity, post/decoloniality, time, surveillance and borders/borderings with a groups of students. Lasting for up to 2 hours each, the Walks represent an innovative teaching strategy that combines ethnographic teaching of complex ideas in line with specific historical events, as well as wellbeing elements, such as the social inclusion of students from different nationalities into the city of Edinburgh.
